Through bringing together a body of experience and expertise this book explores how design in the context of dementia, mental illness and Neurodivergence with a focus on how it can contribute to wellbeing and mental health. The body of work promotes a holistic approach and acknowledges preventive strategies that understand and react to the needs, wants, wishes and rights of people. The authors stress that design can be collaborative and creative to promote wellbeing, health and equality. Split into three parts, the edit volume explores a wide range of themes across design and the build environment. With special mention given to Chapter 23, co-authored by Neurodiverse Connection’s Director Jill Corbyn. The chapter focuses on sensory-friendly LED lighting for healthcare environments and explores co-producing design regulations to meet Autistic needs. The entire volume demonstrates the ways in which design can support people, their care partners and care professionals in developing environments that promote mental health and well-being.
