In many parts of the world healthcare is in crisis. This short article explores the issues in the United States of America and the United Kingdom from the standpoint of two possible responses. The first standpoint being that the crisis is caused by issues with organisation, efficiency, information, technology and scale. The second standpoint suggests that the crisis is a crisis of care itself. The authors draw on this second standpoint to discuss the crisis of care at a human level going beyond big data to the individual fears, hopes and dreams of those seeking care and working in the caring system.
